- Do you wake up after 8, 9, or 10 hours of sleep feeling anything but refreshed?
- Do you get tired during the day and have to take naps?
- Do you struggle with back pain?
If you answered no to these three questions, you are definitely in the lucky minority of the population.
A few years ago I was part of the unlucky MAJORITY of individuals who struggle with sleeping well and feel the related symptoms of tiredness as well as back pain throughout the day.
Anyways, I tried a lot of different things. I went through four high quality mattresses with no relief. I tried a japanese futon that I bought from amazon. I even slept on the floor for a while.
After a whole lot of sleep experimentation, I can happily say that today I can answer “no” to the three aforementioned questions. I wake up feeling refreshed, I have a lot of energy during the day, and I don’t struggle with back pain. I sleep great pretty much every night.
Here’s what worked for me(!):
Yes, I know it looks crazy… it’s a $40 DIY bed that i invented. It is simply four ikea LACK Side Tables put together as well as five folded blankets for some cushion.
So why does this crazy bed help me sleep well? I don’t know for sure! But I do have a few theories. One is that when you sleep on a hard surface, more pressure is put on your bones and your muscles are actually able to relax and to rejuvenate more. Also, it may just have to do with ancient wisdom… You’ll often hear grandparents say that sleeping on the floor is great for your back!
I’m sure this won’t work for everyone and it definitely takes a little while to adjust to a hard surface. Nevertheless, I will be happy if this helps even a few people get a good night’s sleep without spending a whole lot of $$$ on mattresses!
(*And finally, I weigh about 160 pounds and I wouldn’t recommend the LACK side tables for anyone who weighs much more…)by
